Moab Workload Manager®
Moab Workload Manager is a policy-based job scheduler and event engine that enables utility-based computing for clusters. It simplifies management across one or multiple hardware, operating system, storage, network, license and resource manager environments to increase the ROI of clustered resources, improve system utilization to run between 90-99 percent, and allow for expansion.
Moab Workload Manager combines intelligent scheduling of resources with advanced reservations to process jobs on the right resources at the right time. It also provides flexible policy and event engines that process workloads faster and in line with set business requirements and priorities.

| Features (Moab Workload Manager) | Benefits (Moab Workload Manager) |
|---|---|
| Scheduling Optimizations | Maximize cluster performance to 90-99% with intelligent resource allocation and workload ordering |
| Advance Reservations | Reserve any set of resources for use by any group for any period of time |
| Malleable Jobs | Modify already existing jobs, maximizing system utilization and minimizing end user support time |
| Job Preemption | Preempt active jobs to accommodate higher priority workload |
| Fairness Policies | Control users’ activities with throttling policies, job prioritization, fairshare, allocation management, QoS, and standing reservations |
| Event Policies/Triggers | Automate arbitrary actions to be associated with cluster events |
| Local Area Grid Integration | Track local area grid workload and control the level of service and quantity of resources made available to remotely submitted workload |
| Multi-Resource Manager Support | Query multiple sources of information to obtain a full-picture view of available resources |
| Generic Resource Support | Schedule node-locked and floating cluster resources such as filesystems, licenses, or tape-drives |
Application Integration
- Identity Management - allow the scheduler to interact with identity and security credentials from Globus or other sources
- Resource Provisioning - allow the scheduler to dynamically modify node resources by installing software packages or patches and operating system to meet current workload needs through integration with software provisioning tools such as Red Carpet Enterprise or other provisioning tools
- Allocation/Billing Manager - allow the scheduler to interact with allocation/billing managers to provide utility like billing reports or managed credit reports using tools such as QBank, Gold or others
- Databases - allow the scheduler to interact with databases to either provide or consume information that is used/provided by another application or data store
System Compatibility
- Resource Managers: TORQUE Resource Manager, OpenPBS, PBSPro, Sun Gridengine (SGE), SGE Enterprise Edition (SGEE), LoadLeveler, LSF, BProc/Scyld, Scalable System Software (SSS-RM), or Quadrics RMS
- Operating Systems: Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, AIX, OSF/Tru-64, Solaris, HP-UX, IRIX, FreeBSD & other UNIX platforms
