Hello
I¹ve been playing around with the NODEALLOCATIONPOLICY PRIORITY settings to
try and balance across multiple switches that are trunked to an upper tier
switch. So far, I¹ve only come up with two solutions, the first would be:
NODECFG[DEFAULT] PRIORITY=¹100*RANDOM¹
The second would be to individually assign the priority for each node such
that they would be allocated across the switches.
I¹ve noted two things. First if I tried to combine the RANDOM function
with anything else, the RANDOM function seems to be ignored, i.e.: if I use:
NODECFG[DEFAULT] PRIORITY=¹100*RANDOM USAGE¹
It would just allocate nodes started at the lowest numbered nodes instead of
selecting randomly across similar nodes.
The second observation was that values such as MTBF would be more meaningful
if it was possible to use arithmetic functions such as log() and ln()
instead of just the usual + - * /. The comparative difference between a
node that has been up for a week versus one that¹s been up for two weeks
should be less than the comparative difference between a node that has been
up for a day versus one that has been up for one week. What mathematical
functions are available? And why isn¹t RANDOM RANDOM if any other metric is
introduced?
Regards,
John
